HURON PERTH BUY LOCAL! BUY FRESH! MAP
This map is the only guide you need to find locally grown and produced food in Huron and Perth Counties! You can choose to buy direct from the farm or the listed retail outlets that sell locally produced food products.
HURON GOOD FOOD BOX
The Good Food Box provides Huron County residents with local vegetables and fruits on a monthly basis. It is a community-based project that relies on volunteers. Buying in large quantities from our local producers allows us to get better pricing. That means you get better value!
HURON PERTH EAT & LEARN
The goal of Huron Perth Eat and Learn continues to be making sure all children have access to healthy food in their school. The name was changed from the Huron Perth School Nutrition Partnership in the fall of 2008 to make it easier to recognize.
COMMUNITY FOOD ADVISORS
The Community Food Advisor (CFA) program trains and supports volunteers who provide information and programs promoting healthy eating and food safety to consumers in Huron County. The typical CFA volunteer is someone who loves food and has some knowledge and skills in food handling. They participate in a peer training program which is certified by the Huron County Health Unit.
COMMUNITY KITCHENS
Community Kitchens are groups of people who meet regularly to plan meals and cook together. Prepared food can be divided and taken home, eaten at the kitchen or both. Costs are minimal.
FOOD BANKS & PROGRAMS
Sometimes it is hard to put food on the table, especially during these hard economic times. There are many food banks around the county that help to put food on the table for you and your family.
FARMS TO FOOD BANKS
In 2009 and 2010 the United Communities Credit Union responded to the significant increase in demand on area food banks. They donated $75,000 in perishable foods (apples, potatoes, ground beef and sausage) from local farmers to food banks in several areas, including Huron and Perth counties.
