Do you hate to see waste? Want to help feed the hungry in your community?

What You Can Do…

Gleaning:

Gleaning involves going out and picking the produce that is left behind in a farmer’s field after the harvest.

Some people can glean for themselves and their families, and others glean to give food to food banks or meal programs in the area.

Gleaning is ripe with benefits including:

  • Less produce wasted
  • More fruits and vegetables for local families to eat, especially for those that might not be able to afford them otherwise
  • Physical activity for gleaners
  • Promotion of eating local foods
  • Greater connection to food and knowledge about how food grows

No gleaning projects currently exist in Huron and Perth Counties. All it would take are some willing farmers and some willing gleaners.
