Produce

Donating produce is fairly restriction free.

Before dropping off produce, it’s recommended that you phone the food bank to confirm that they are open and that they have enough room to store your donation.

If you live in Huron County and your donation is very large, you may want to consider donating it to the Huron Food Bank Distribution Center in Exeter. This center can accept large quantities of food and can then distribute it amongst the 9 food banks in Huron county.

Please do not take food to the food bank if it is not fit to eat (e.g. rotten or contaminated). Food banks must throw away unacceptable foods and pay the associated disposal fees.

Meat

Some food banks have freezers and are able to provide meat for their clients. If you would like to donate meat to the food bank, it must be an inspected meat product. The meat should be transported directly from the abattoir or butcher to the food bank, maintaining the temperature at 4 degree Celsius for unfrozen meats or -18 degrees Celsius for frozen meats.

Butchering Cost

Willing to donate an animal, but not the money to butcher it? Try teaming up with a community organization who might donate the money to have the animal butchered for the food bank.

Eggs

If you want to donate eggs to a food bank they need be graded (at least A or B grade).

You could also choose to donate to one of the hot meal programs in the area or a local community kitchen.
